Instagram Fridays: College Humor video about Instagram cliches

College Humor posted this incredibly hilarious video about cliché Instagram pictures.  I’m definitely guilty of some of these.  Are you?

Note: NSFW because of language.

My Instagram cliché pics (as evidenced in the video):

Sandy Update

I’m writing to let my readers know that I am safe and sound after Hurricane Sandy.  My family and I only lost power for a few days and I spent some of the time making some art.

However, the people in Lower Manhattan, Breezy Point, Staten Island, Brooklyn and New Jersey need help!

You can donate to Red Cross here.

Also, NBC Universal stations (MSNBC, NBC Network, USA, CNBC) are broadcasting a benefit concert for victims of Hurricane Sandy starting at 8pm ET.  Music Acts include Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Christina Aguilera, and Jon Bon Jovi with appearances from Jimmy Fallon and Matt Lauer.

Instagram Fridays: Tomás Saraceno Cloud City

From the Metropolitan Museum of Art:

Artist Tomás Saraceno (born in Tucumán, Argentina, in 1973) has created a constellation of large, interconnected modules constructed with transparent and reflective materials for the Museum’s Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden. Visitors may enter and walk through these habitat-like, modular structures grouped in a nonlinear configuration. Over the past decade, Saraceno has established a practice of constructing habitable networks based upon complex geometries and interconnectivity that merge art, architecture, and science. The interdisciplinary project “Cloud Cities/Air Port City” is rooted in the artist’s investigation of expanding the ways in which we inhabit and experience our environment.

Instagram Fridays: Grand Central Terminal and Street Art

Yesterday, I enjoyed a wonderful evening with my friend Amy who I won’t see for a couple months because of my camp job.  While I was waiting for her, I took these pictures:

I wish someone would start a flash mob…

Later we walked the High Line and found some pretty cool street art:

Motivational Mondays: Keith Haring

The public needs art, and it is the responsibility of a “self-proclaimed artist” to realize the public needs art, and not to make bourgeois art for a few and ignore the masses…. If the public is afraid of art, should we [artists] be afraid of what we have done to make the public afraid of art?

– Keith Haring, journal entry, October 14, 1976

I featured Keith Haring this week because I was inspired by his show in the Brooklyn Museum. This quote made me think of how we, as creative people, can reach and inspire others with our talents.

Wednesday’s post!

I need two more collectors!

So I know I posted this before but here’s an update.  I only need two more collectors in order for my artwork to be made public in the Artists Wanted website.  The next step is that people vote for me to have my work displayed in Times Square.   This would be an amazing opportunity for me.

My 4×6 Exchange Drawing is Here!

A couple of months ago, I participated in the 4×6 Exchange Project by Art House Co-op.  The premise of the project is simple.  You create a piece of artwork that is 4×6 inches in size, you mail it to the Brooklyn Art Library, and then you get someone else’s artwork in the mail.

Today, I received a wonderful sketch by an artist named Roger who writes and posts his sketches in his blog Sketches by Roger.  I love the way the figure is raising his hands as if he just had a major victory.  I’m very partial to watercolors and pen as well.

In case you’re wondering what my 4×6 art was, here it is:

4x6 Exchange

My 4×6 exchange drawing

If you’re the person that received this drawing or you know the person who received this drawing, I would love to hear from you!  I made that drawing before I started this blog so unfortunately my blog wouldn’t be listed behind the drawing.

I’m always very excited to participate in Art House Co-op’s projects.  I’m going to be featuring my Sketchbook Project: Limited Edition drawings very soon as well as sign up for Sketchbook Project 2013.

Please leave a comment if you participated in the 4×6 Exchange.  I would love to see what you received.  Also, click “Like” for my Zombie friend that is somewhere in America!
